Website Founder Taken Into Custody

Kim Dotcom, founder of the website Megaupload, is waiting to hear the judge’s decision on his request for bail. Dotcom was taken into custody in New Zealand by officials after his mansion in Auckland was raided on Friday. The New Zealand prosecutors are acting on behalf of United States Authorities. They claim that Dotcom presents an “extreme flight risk” and therefore his bail request should be denied.

Megaupload was a website that allowed its members to download and share files, most of which were copyrighted material. The company’s servers have been detained by authorizes and fifty million dollars of assets have been frozen.   The website gathered over one hundred and seventy five million dollars in illegal revenue from advertisements and paid membership fees before being taken over by authorities.
